6-Day Choquequirao Trek to Machu Picchu Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Capuliyoc – Chikiska
Begin early from Cusco and drive to Capuliyoc. Start the 4-hour downhill hike to Chikiska (1950 m), passing through scenic canyons with views of the Andes. Overnight at Chikiska campsite.
Day 2: Chikiska – Santa Rosa – Marampata
Hike uphill to Santa Rosa (2300 m), then continue to Marampata (2940 m). Enjoy lush vegetation, birdwatching (including condors), and views of the Apurimac River. Camp at Marampata.
Day 3: Marampata – Choquequirao – Marampata
Visit the Inca citadel of Choquequirao (3050 m), exploring its temples, plazas, and agricultural terraces. Return to Marampata to camp. This is often the trek's highlight.
Day 4: Marampata – La Playa – Coca Masana
Descend through cloud forests and villages to La Playa, then continue to Coca Masana near the Apurimac River. Camp with stunning mountain views.
Day 5: Coca Masana – Capuliyoc – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes
Hike uphill to Capuliyoc, enjoy a traditional Pachamanca lunch, then drive to Ollantaytambo. From there, take a train to Aguas Calientes and stay overnight in a hotel.
Day 6: Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco
Visit Machu Picchu with a guided tour of its temples and plazas. After exploring, return by bus and train to Ollantaytambo, then drive back to Cusco, arriving around 7:30 pm.

Clothing: Waterproof jacket/pants, fleece, hiking clothes, long sleeves, hat, gloves, socks, and a buff.

Equipment: 40–50L backpack, sleeping bag (rated -10°C/14°F), sleeping pad, headlamp, water system, trekking poles, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, toiletries, and towel.
