Quinoia Expeditions offers a stunning panoramic train journey through the Vilcanota River Canyon, starting in Ollantaytambo and passing through sub-tropical jungle on the way to Aguas Calientes. From there, a shuttle takes you to the iconic Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can explore the ancient Inca citadel, filled with rich archaeological treasures and vibrant cultural history.

Machu Picchu 1-Day Tour with Quinoa Expeditions

Group size: Small group (max. 8 people)

Start time: 4:00 am (hotel pick-up in Cusco)

Transport: Van to Ollantaytambo, then 6:10 am train to Aguas Calientes

Arrival: 7:30 am – Meet your guide

Transfer: Shuttle to Machu Picchu (30 minutes)

Tour: 3-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, followed by free time for photos

Lunch: Return to Aguas Calientes between 12:00–1:00 pm

Return train options: 3:20, 4:22, 4:43, or 6:20 pm (based on availability)

Arrival in Cusco: Around 7:00 pm or later, depending on train time

Note:

Hiking Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain is not possible on this 1-day itinerary due to time limitations.

Machu Picchu 1-Day Tour Itinerary with Quinoa Expeditions

Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu

  • 4:00 am: Pick-up from your hotel in Cusco; private transfer to Ollantaytambo Train Station
    (If starting from Ollantaytambo, pick-up is at 5:20–5:30 am)
  • 6:10 am: Depart on the Expedition Train with scenic views of the Vilcanota River and Inca terraces
  • 7:30 am: Arrive in Aguas Calientes; meet your guide
  • Morning: Shuttle bus to Machu Picchu (30 minutes); ~2-hour guided tour through the citadel, visiting the agricultural, residential, and religious sectors
  • Afternoon: Return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included); possible free time for shopping, sightseeing, hot springs, or museum
  • Return train options: 3:20 pm, 4:22 pm, 4:43 pm, or 6:20 pm (based on availability)
  • Evening: Private van transfer from Ollantaytambo to your hotel in Cusco, arrival between 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm

Extras & Notes:

Optional hike to the Sun Gate or Inca Bridge (available since June 1, 2024) – $55 USD per person

Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain hikes are not possible on this one-day tour

Includes Circuit 2A or 2B entrance to Machu Picchu (subject to availability – early booking recommended)

Welcome to Cusco:
Upon arrival at Cusco airport, you will be greeted by a Quinoa Expeditions yellow sign. Airport pickup is available on any date; just send your flight details at least 14 days in advance.

Pre-Tour Briefing:
Takes place the day before the tour at 6:00 pm atyour hotel or Quinoa Expeditions office.

Luggage Storage:
You can safely store your main luggage at the Quinoa Expeditions office or your hotel during the Machu Picchu tour.
Be sure not to pack items needed for the hike in stored luggage.
