The Maras, Moray & Chinchero Half-Day Tour offers a rich cultural and scenic experience in the Cusco region of Peru. These iconic sites showcase Peru’s Inca heritage, with highlights including the agricultural terraces of Moray, the ancient salt mines of Maras, and the traditional weaving town of Chinchero. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, this tour is ideal for travelers interested in history, culture, and nature, providing a memorable glimpse into the ingenuity and traditions of the Inca civilization.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 8:00 AM or 12:30 PM—you may choose either a morning or afternoon tour. Our journey begins with a 1-hour drive to Moray (3,450 m / 11,318 ft), a fascinating archaeological site where the Incas built circular agricultural terraces to experiment with crops at different altitudes. Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, Moray offers a glimpse into the innovative farming techniques of the ancient Inca civilization.
Next, we travel 30 minutes to the town of Maras (3,385 m / 11,105 ft), located in the heart of the Sacred Valley. Known for its colonial charm and scenic beauty, Maras is a great place to explore narrow streets lined with adobe homes and visit its beautiful colonial church, a legacy from the Spanish era.
The highlight of the tour is the Salineras of Maras (3,200 m / 10,498 ft), just 20 minutes away. These ancient salt ponds have been in use since pre-Inca times and are still operated today by local families. Using traditional evaporation techniques, over 3,000 salt pans produce natural pink salt that is harvested and sold in local markets. The site offers a fascinating cultural insight and is a fantastic spot for photography.
We then drive 40 minutes to Chinchero (3,762 m / 12,343 ft), a picturesque Andean village known for its vibrant textile traditions. Here, you’ll visit a local weaving center to observe traditional techniques using natural fibers such as alpaca, llama, and sheep wool. Watch artisans spin, dye, and weave stunning patterns that reflect the region’s cultural heritage.
In Chinchero, you will also explore Inca ruins, visit a beautiful colonial church, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
After the visit, we will return you to your hotel in Cusco.
